DotA over a few years ago

Here are some features that existed on previous DotA versions. In no particular order.

  • Couriers have mana. This was removed after an embarrassing kill from Dagon courier on Pub Games
  • On the release of 6.68 the Arcane Boots on Meepoo works along with his clones. This was removed a few days after.
  • Arcane ring was a different item. It was replaced after being outdated by Magic Wand and Soul Ring.
  • The old Blademail was a 20% melee damage return. It can be stacked making it too powerful even for lifesteal to heal.
  • The Blink Dagger didn't have a 3s cooldown.
  • Manta Style required Diffusal Blade. This made the illusions too powerful with the feedback effect.
  • Heart of Tarrasque increases hp regeneration by 15hp/sec. It then changed to 1% HP per second. Taking 6-10 minutes to kill high HP heroes.
  •  Powertreads requires a recipe to make.
  • The recipe was replaced by a +6 stat item.
  • Phaseboots originally had Chain Mail as its components. It gave a substantial buff to low armored heroes.
  • It became 2 Blades of Attack + Boots a few versions later.
  • Bloodstone gives bonus HP regen per level.
  • This made all intel heroes tanks making it difficult to kill an owning intel hero.
  • Now the charges are halved after death.
  • Satanic can dominate creeps restoring a huge amount of hp and mana.
  • It later maximized its Lifestealing effect with Vampiric Potion ability allowing the user to lifesteal damage for 3.5 seconds
  • Ethereal Blade became cheaper when Wraith Band was removed from its components.
  • Aegis of Immortal components were Plate Mail, Stout Shield and Magic Shroud
  • And its recipe costs 2000 (the most expensive recipe)
  • Can Revive the hero x3
  • Undroppable
  • You can make another one as long as you still have a free slot.
  • Restores upto 1500 hp and teleport back to base.
  • But for the latest versions. You get this after Roshan.
  • Divine Rapier is more dangerous to wield.
  • Roshan can drop Cheese.
  • Old Linken Sphere cannot block Coded abilities
  • The latest version made it more viable.
  • Ultimate Orb was a lot cheaper a few years back.
  • The ability name was Disentangle (blocks magic)
  • Monkey King Bar (hardly reminds you of the Monkey King) requires a recipe and one Quarterstaff.
  • MKB became an auto-forming item with x2 Javelins.
  • Guinsoo's Scythe of Vyse was an easy to build step-by-step item.
  • Euls Scepter of Divinity was part of its components.
  • Oblivion Staff and a combining recipe was part of its components.
  • The current recipe scales with its high-tier level
  • It was named after the previous mod for DotA (Steave Feak) before Icefrog
  • Euls had 6 charges of Cyclones disabling enemies for a long item. The numbers were nerfed until we have a semi-alternative to Guinsoo.
  • It was named after the founder of DotA (Euls)
  • Remember this? Its the Flask of Sapphire Water
  • Hand of Midas costs 1610
  • Cannot be used by Tinker
  • Maestorm used Boots of Elvenskin as its recipe
  • It was remade to use Claymore instead of Mithril Hammer (the old Lothars use it as its components)
  • Mjolnir has a different spelling when it was used with Ragnarok Online (It got renamed after fans protested its acceptable name)
  • It had a terrible icon before
  • It required Eaglehorn + Maelstrom but was change with Hyperstone (a popular item for non-agi heroes)
  • Aghanims Scepter required Mystic Staff + Soul Booster
  • It got cheaper and went to to work most of the heroes in DotA
  • Previously undroppable
  • Sentry and Observer Wards had the same icon and model
  • Goblin Techies used the Blue Ward for Remote Mines.
  • Observer Wards turned blue to identify it easily
  • Observer Ward costs 215 gold
  • Lasts 8 minutes (the latest lasts 6 minutes)
  • Both have 3 Charges
  • Sentry Ward costs 375 gold
  • Lasts 6 minutes (the latest lasts 3 minutes) and a lowered vision
  • Black King Bar required Broadsword (instead of Mithril Hammer)
  • Ogre Axe and a 1600 recipe cost (the lastest costs 1300)
  • Mask of Madness srecipe costs 1100 (now 1000)
  • Oblivion Staff costs 1925 (now 1625)
